About us
The National Library of Scotland is a legal deposit library located in Edinburgh. Its Legal deposit status means it has the right to claim every book published in the UK.
The Monographs & Media team are in charge of cataloguing legal deposit material as well as items bought by the Library and those generously donated by our users.
We process around 6000 items a month. These items range from novels, textbooks, toys and media material, which we expect to increase in the future.
We also catalogue the Graham Brown mountaineering collection. This is one of the largest collections of mountaineering andĀ alpine literature.
